Champion of Champions Freestyle Classes

In 2010 Brightwells introduced the innovative Champion of Champion classes. These classes are designed to show case the quality of horses sold at the Brightwells Sales by inviting past graduates to compete against Champions and placed horses from the Winter and National British Championships in lucrative £1,000 Freestyle Classes.

Sue Carson Saddles £1,000 Prix St George Freestyle

International Judges Francis Ver Beek and Peter Engel declared this one of the best Prix St Georges they had ever judged. It was a star studded class with the outstanding reigning Champion Valegro ridden by Charlotte Dujardin having to take 2nd place to her mentor Carl Hester on past Brightwells Auction horse Fernandez. The class was further complimented with Sophie Wells and Pinocchio the dual Gold Medallists at the World Equestrian Games in 2010 and 3 Gold Medals at the Para European Championships in 2009 who finished third.

Champion

Carl and Fernandez have since progressed to Grand Prix in 2011 and on their debut at Zwolle in The Netherlands in January they finished third with a score of 67.8% and second in the Freestyle with a fantastic score of 74.35%.

Reserve Champion

Charlotte also competed Valegro at Zwolle finishing second in the Prix St George and third in the Intermediate 1. The judges described him as ‘World Class’.

Dressage Challenge – The End of an Era

The Dressage Challenge which has been part of the Brightwells November Sale of Dressage Horses since 1998 for past auction graduates to return and compete for a lucrative prize fund has now come to an end. This concept has played a vital role in establishing the sale of dressage horses in the UK.

Moving forward we are now looking to find a partner to create a new competition for past graduates.
