Tax Disc Information Update:

As of the 1st October 2014, customers of new and used vehicles will benefit from no longer having to obtain and display a physical tax disc. Tax reminders for renewals will be sent out as normal, but a disc will not be received once the renewal has been made.

From this date vehicle tax will be non-transferrable when a vehicle is sold, and therefore the buyer must always obtain new vehicle tax immediately upon the point of sale. From the 1st October Brightwells will no longer offer vehicles with current tax. DVLA have advised that this can be done using the V5C/2, either online or by telephone. Brightwells will continue to send to DVLA the log book (V5C) of any vehicle purchased by a private buyer and motor traders will still operate under the “yellow slip” system.

The DVLA will be issuing an automatic refund of unused full month’s tax to the Registered Keeper upon notification of the sale.

For further information, please visit https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/driver-and-vehicle-licensing-agency

Also, from this date, vehicles with current MoT certificates will not necessarily have the paper certificate present, however Brightwells will check online to verify the expiry date of any valid MoT advertised using https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ which is a free service available also to the general public.
