Neighbour’s surprise wine bequest to local couple
A Herefordshire couple were stunned to discover that their neighbour had left them a wine collection worth over £10,000 in his will.
The couple, who would prefer not to be named, had always got on well with their neighbour and often shared a bottle or two. When he passed away it came as some surprise that they had inherited his entire wine cellar.
Paddy Shave, the Wine Consultant at Brightwells’ Auctioneers was valuing the wine when one particular case caught his eye. “There are some nice wines in the collection, but the highlight is 10 bottles of a very rare Burgundy: Clos La Roche 1980 from Domaine Dujac. These 10 bottles alone could easily achieve in excess of £4,000.”
The wines will be sold at Brightwells’ Wine Auction in Leominster on Wednesday February 22nd.
Viewing will be from 9am-5pm on Monday 20th and 9am-7pm on Tuesday 21st. A number of items will be open for tasting from 3pm-7pm on Tuesday 21st and from 9am-11am on the morning of the sale
