Rare and unusual model with clever independent front suspension and fluid flywheel

The Singer Register know of just nine survivors of this rather unusual model. Introduced when Singer were starting to feel the competitive pinch, with rivals Ford, Morris and Austin really getting into their stride, it wasn't long before it was dropped from the catalogue - it must have been very expensive to make.

It is thought just 850 or so were produced, penny numbers for such a concern which helps explain why so few have survived.

It was purchased by the vendor's late father about four years ago, having be reassembled from a partially dismantled state by its previous owner over a number of years. They had acquired it to turn into a Singer Special, but on discovering how few remained, resolved to get it back on the road. This they did, but it subsequently spent 10 years in storage at the back of the garage, so was re-offered as a project in 2018.

We don't know when the 1,342cc ohc last ran and we couldn't get it to turn over on the handle, although work has been done so we suspect not so long ago. The bodywork and chassis look solid and the interior is nice and original and would clean up with some elbow-grease. There is even a period radio....

The file includes some interesting articles on the model, an original brochure, lubrication chart and no fewer than three handbooks!

Such is the rarety of the model and the technically interesting parts within, that this Singer deserves to get some proper TLC to bring it back to life.
