new by Evans Halshaw Maserati in May 2000, this late model Quattroporte IV
(4th Generation) AM337 comes to us in desirable Evoluzione guise, the
last of the run of this model (with much improved quality over the earlier
non-Evo versions) and is one of just 730 built.
Finished in unusual, but well suited Rosso Villoresi Metallic and
sits upon its original 17” eight-spoke alloy wheels the car looks, and sounds
well.
Under the bonnet, we find the 3.2 litre
AM578 V8 engine with twin turbochargers (an evolution of that found in the
fantastic Maserati Shamal Coupe), which develops 330bhp resulting in a top speed
of 168mph and phenomenal in-gear performance. Drive goes to the rear wheels via
optional four-speed automatic transmission here.
Inside the luxuriously trimmed cabin, we find tan Connolly leather,
Elm bur veneer trim, electric windows, air conditioning, electronic damper
control, electric folding mirrors, original Becker Avus radio/cassette player,
suede head-lining and as a later Evoluzione car, features the Trident on the
dash instead of the traditional Lassale clock, re-shaped wing mirrors and V8
Evoluzione badges on the wings.
The car has
been with our vendor for some 16 years and shows just 59,769 miles during which
time he has covered about 30,000 miles – which he comments have been
surprisingly trouble-free and very enjoyable, and include driving the car to us
from Carmarthen without issue.
The history file
includes the V5C revealing just four former keepers, the owner’s pack and
service book recording eight stamps, the last two by local Italian Car
specialist Tanc Barrett at 32,528 miles in 2008.
The car has since been maintained ‘in-house’ by our vendor, an
engineer including (as noted on a
document in the file) the belts in 2019, annual oil and filter changes using
Selenia Racing Oil. He also gives a couple of tips on ownership and refers to a
couple of the quirks and their simple management.
In the boot, we find a few useful spares along with some spare
fluids for the new owner should they be needed.
The history file also includes bills for works undertaken and parts
purchased including timing belt and service parts, an overhaul of the starter
motor, Powerflex bushes and new Brembo discs and pads in 2014 and new windscreen
(£1400) in February 2020 etc.
The file also
includes an impressive 17 old MOTs plus the current, valid until August 2023
recording no advisories.
Ready to be enjoyed,
this looks like a great alternative to the period rivals such as M3, E55/C43,
Alpina or XJR with rarity, looks and history on its side. What a cool car.
