1997 Range Rover 4.6 HSE (P38)
Tidy example
showing 106,000 miles, replacement engine in 2021; privacy glass and rorty quad
exhausts - a proper Modern Classic 4x4
Supplied new by Park Lane Land Rover or London in December 1998
this appealing (Second gen) P38 Range Rover comes to us in 4.6 HSE spec and is
finished in Black, riding on what look to be a later set of (L322) 18inch alloy
wheels shod with grippy Goodyear tyres.
We also note fitment of the optional sidesteps and here, a rorty quad tip
exhaust system.
Under the bonnet, we find the
4.6 litre Rover V8 engine which develops (as a pre-99 model) some 230bhp and
380NM of torque driving all-four wheels via four-speed ZF 4HP24
transmission.
Inside the typically luxurious
cockpit we find cream leather piped black, electrically adjustable front seats
with lumbar support and driver memory, walnut trim, digital climate control
(which has suffered the usual pixel deterioration), EAS air suspension which
appeared to work as it should, cruise control, heated seats, original
radio/cassette with CD changer, electric windows, electric mirrors and glass
sunroof.
The car shows 106,863 miles, which is
supported by a good history file including the V5C revealing eight former
keepers to the current, our vendor, the owner’s pack and service book recording
an impressive 16 stamps plus three further hand-written entries including the
most recent in August 2021 at 103,000 by Aberystwyth Land Rover which included a
replacement engine (undocumented bar the note in the service book). The service book also includes one noted
factory recall from October 1998 at 5,797 miles.
We also find a file of supporting invoices for routine maintenance,
parts and other works including an exchange steering box in August 2016,
replacement coded keys, window tinting, OSF window regulator and new EAS pump in
2015, fitment of replacement suspension air bags in 2012 plus a host of more
historic bills and 12 old MOTs.
The current MOT
is valid until February 2023 and shows eight minor advisories (enter the reg
online at check-mot.service.gov.uk) none of which should cause much
concern.
Ready to be enjoyed, the P38 has
enjoyed something of a Renaissance in recent times gaining proper Modern Classic
4x4 status and this example looks most appealing at the enticing
estimate.
