1982 Land Rover S3 109" Hi Capacity
Pick-Up
Body-off restoration; rare Hi-Cap version; diesel;
many new parts; impressive condition underneath
Dating from 1982,
this straight and gently patinated 109" Land Rover was fitted from new with the
Hi-Capacity tray at the rear. Offering considerably more room and practicality,
the Hi-Cap pickup was rather pricy in its day and so was not as popular as Land
Rover had hoped - making survivors a relatively rare sight these
days.
This Tax and MOT example has had a fortune spent on it in recent
years, in both time and parts. Stripped to its core components, the chassis was
fully restored and properly treated. The bulkhead is in excellent order and the
following parts have been added:
New fuel tank, new springs, shocks and
bump stops, new exhaust, new swivels, seals, bearings, UJs and half-shafts to
the front axle.
The brakes have been overhauled with new brake pipes and
the steering fitted with a new damper and ball joints. Underneath, it looks as
fresh as a daisy.
The body has had new inner sills fitted, with new
lights throughout, seat bases, pedal rubbers, seatbelts, front bumper, mirrors,
mudflaps and the car set-off with upgraded wheels and tyres.
Under the
bonnet, the original five-bearing engine (currently sitting in the tray awaiting
a rebore) has been replaced with an earlier three-bearing unit, fitted with new
glow plugs, a new water pump and to hose, new startermotor, clutch and engine
mounts.
The bodywork remains in very presentable condition and it was
decided not to respray it as it wasn't necessary and looks much better the way
it is.
It has just had a fresh oil and filter servcie, including the
axles and comes with the original colour-coded tail light backing
plates.
Ready for work or play, the hard work has been done on this 41
year old which has years of life ahead.
