Lot Ended
Description
Older restoration from an Isle of Man collection; recently
recommissioned with many new parts; good running order and in regular use; new
hood and sidescreens; ready to enjoy
First
registered in January 1951, this MG TD subsequently found its way to South
Africa where it was acquired by a Dr C Prestwich in 1979 to join his collection.
He subsequently had the car restored and when he moved to the Isle of Man in
2000, he brought his entire collection with him.
Our vendor, an Octagon Club member, acquired the TD via a
Charterhouse auction in 2018, at which point it was still on Isle of Man number
plates (JMN-63-U) and in need of recommissioning following a period in storage.
He got the car UK registered in January 2019 and soon had it up and running
again with various new parts fitted.
In
January 2020 it was sent to those good chaps at Much Marcle Garage for a major
service and a good going-over which cost over £2,600. This included a full brake
system overhaul; new rear shock absorbers; new diff pinion bearings and seal;
new propshaft UJs; carburettors rebuilt plus much else
besides.
In April last year it went to pre-'56
MG specialist Chris Smith Engineering who renewed the fuel pump and all the fuel
pipes. The car has also recently been treated to a new water pump, the wiper
motor has been rebuilt, all 5 wheels refurbished with 5 new tyres and
a new hood frame fitted along with a new mohair hood and new sidescreens.
As you can see in the photos, the car is rock
solid structurally and the doors fit nicely with no signs of play. All that lets
the side down is the paintwork which is not quite as shiny as it could be and
has flaked off in a small area on the front left wing.
Successfully completing the Bluebell Run in May last year, it was
driven some 30 miles to the sale and has been starting well and running nicely
as we have moved it around on site, with good 60psi oil
pressure.
Only reluctantly for sale due to an
impending house move and consequent loss of storage, this nice old TD can be
enjoyed straight away and could be smartened up cosmetically if the new
owner feels so inclined.
