Description
A very pretty open Austin ready to go; recent tyres; a
delight
The Opal was Austin's ultimate development of the
entry-level Seven, the first Austin to be available for £100, offering basic
transport for two and plenty of luggage.
These later Austins incorporated
all sorts of improvements over the earlier models, including much better brakes,
a side-draft carburettor and trafficators (working in this case) - they even got
synchromesh on second and third speeds of the four-speed
gearbox.
Its history picks up in the late '70s when it was
comprehensively restored by Wildae Restorations in Devon, work which was
completed in 1983 when it was registered for the road. The V5C shows it as
declared manufactured 1937.
There are various invoices on file, the more
recent including four new tyres in 2018 since when it has covered few fine
weather miles. The vendor has added indicators for safety on the road.
There is also a handbook and parts book in the file.
The condition of the
car is impressive, with an excellent paint finish and full weather equipment
which includes the sidescreens which are hidden in the doors when not in use.
The rest of the trim is excellent apart from some damage to the passenger seat
back as photographed. This was done some time ago by a naughtly small
four-legged friend....
Ready to use and enjoy, it is on the button and is
one of the nicest we have had the pleasure to offer.
