Description
Current owner since 2003; fortunes spent including rebuilt engine,
gearbox, brakes, steering, suspension etc; lots to like, a fair bit still to
do
‘Don’t judge a
book by its cover’ is a well-worn phrase but it is entirely appropriate for this
GT6. While it may look a bit sorry on the outside, it has many fine qualities on
the inside. Our vendor acquired the car in 2003 and he has spent the last 20
years rebuilding it, while keeping it on the road as much as possible in-between
bouts of work.

and you will begin to appreciate the extent of the work carried out so far. When
he acquired the car, much of it had already been restored, as evidenced by
copious invoices on file going back to 1994. This had included the fitment of a
new galvanized chassis, various new body panels, stainless steel exhaust,
rebuilt steering and front suspension plus much else
besides.
Our vendor took the body off the car
and shot blasted and powder coated the chassis. The rear suspension was fully
rebuilt and a new differential fitted along with a new brake servo. The engine
had already been rebuilt but this was done again by Telford Engine Centre with
new main and big end bearings, new piston rings, core plugs etc. and a
reconditioned cylinder head. A new water pump, radiator core, starter motor,
alternator and wiring loom were also fitted.
The gearbox had also been rebuilt previously but a new gearbox
propshaft was fitted and the overdrive replaced.
Various aspects of the bodywork were attended to (including a new
boot floor and a new front roof section) and the body was put back on the
chassis using polyurethane mounts. All five wheels were refurbished, the canvas
roof was renewed and a new headliner fitted. Many other parts have also been
renewed as detailed in dozens of invoices on file.
Old MOTs show that the car has only covered around 2,000 miles
since the engine rebuild. Driven to the sale from Ludlow, the car has been
starting promptly and running very sweetly as we have moved it around on site.
Although it no longer needs one, it has an MOT until May 2023 with no advisories
recorded.
It also comes with a Haynes manual
and a Heritage Certificate which shows that it was supplied new in October 1971
via Duff, Morgan & Vermont Ltd of Norwich and was originally New White with
a black interior.
As you can plainly see in the
photos, the car is no show pony cosmetically but it is eminently usable as it
is, with lots of expensive work done, and could be smartened up over time as
desired.
