Description
Rare XJR-S, one of just 326 in 5.3 V12 guise; recently
emerged from 14-year storage; starts, runs and moves but needs
recommissioning; exciting opportunity
Dating
from February 1989 this is a rather rare variant of the ‘normal’ Jaguar XJS and
came out of a 50:50 joint partnership between Jaguar and TWR Group Ltd with the
intention of producing high performance sports cars.
The 5.3-litre V12 version of the XJR-S as we have here was built
between 1988 and 1989 and boasted a distinctive TWR branded body-kit, quad
exhausts, special 15” alloy wheels, uprated suspension system featuring Bilstein
dampers which gave the car useful improvements in handling, while the 5.3 V12
saw improved performance, with power up to 318bhp.
Inside, we find the XJR-S specific cream Connolly Autolux
leather interior piped blue with electric lumbar adjustment and heated seats,
walnut dash trim, trip computer, electric windows, cruise control, Pioneer
radio/CD player and original tool kit box in the boot.
The car shows 95,382 miles and comes to us from 14 year storage,
but does start, run and drive although the last MOT was issued in April 2009 at
95,367 miles suggesting just 15 miles have been covered in the last 14
years. The Experian check shows
seven former keepers and that its been in the current ownership since
2007.
The brakes felt like they were binding as
we moved it around and there are various blisters apparent to the bodywork along
with the typical head-lining sag -
that aside, the car looks remarkably sound and appealing given the super
colour and its oh-so-'80s body-kit. There’s much to like – and likely much to do
to get the car roadworthy and ready for a blast.
Within the history file, we find an old new keeper's slip so the
new owner will need to apply for a new V5C, an old HPI check, selection of old
tax discs, one old MOT from 2006 and a selection of bills for maintenance works
undertaken between 2004 and 2005.
A rare
opportunity to acquire a low volume TWR/Jaguar Sports car (one of just 326
5.3-litre variants) in a lovely colour that looks like a relatively
straightforward recommissioning project and is on offer at no reserve so the
highest bid takes this rare old Cat home.
