Description
Appealing MkII Cortina in desirable 1600GT spec; sole ownership since
1971
Dating from January 1968 this MkII Ford
Cortina comes to us in desirable 1600 GT form and is finished in Red with shiny
brightwork and sits on 13” Rostyle wheels shod with Firestone
rubber.
Under the bonnet, we find the 1600cc
‘high-tune’ Kent four cylinder engine driving the rear wheels via four-speed
manual transmission.
Inside, we find the
typical 1600GT interior with the black vinyl interior with wood rimmed steering
wheel and all important quad gauges across the centre of the dash.
The
history file includes the V5C showing sole ownership of the car (although this
isn’t accurate, there is one previous), a buff log book showing the car was
originally Mink Blue and had one former keeper to our man who acquired it in
1971, a note suggesting its had a recent brake overhaul, bill for a new Flint
grey carpet set dated 2014 and a letter dated October 1985 from our vendor
requesting to join the “100,000 mile club” with the Cortina as it had covered
130,000 miles with an engine overhaul at 96,000 miles.
The file also includes the original service book showing it was
supplied new by T.M Parker of Ripon and shows just one entry for a 3,000 mile
service carried out by the supplying dealer in May 1968, a Cortina owner’s club
magazine, some old bills, a period Cortina parts brochures and a useful Haynes
manual.
Likely in need of a tune up (it was
running a little roughly as we moved it around) the car presents and looks well
for its age and would no doubt make a super addition to any classic car
collection.
