AMENDMENT: This car has developed a slight blow from the exhaust manifold
on the left bank
Only 67,100 miles with lots of history from new;
recent £6,000 spend including full service, new radiator and four new
tyres; lovely original interior; a super example at a most
attractive guide price
This handsome
Shadow 1 was supplied new via PJ Evans of Wolverhampton to first owner Mr AF
Standen of Standen Homes Ltd, Nottingham in February 1975. Two service books
plus various invoices show that the car was serviced 14 times up to May 1988 by
which time it had covered 50,355 miles, giving an average service interval of
just 3,600 miles.
Now showing 67,094 miles,
nine old MOTs show that the car only covered 10,000 miles between 1990 and 2014
when it appears that it was put into storage. Invoices show that in
2022/23 some £6,000 was spent recommissioning the car. This included a new
radiator; four new white wall tyres; new stainless steel exhaust sections; work
to the brakes; carburettor overhaul; new heater tap; new battery; new
windscreen; new Kenwood DAB Bluetooth stereo and Audison speakers; full
6,000 mile service etc.
As you
can see in the photos, the car looks most attractive with a lovely red leather
interior, lamb’s wool overmats, rear footrests and an excellent dashboard which
was refurbished in 2001. The original Pioneer 8-track stereo is still
fitted and the car also has air con and cruise control. The Garnet (Black
Cherry) paintwork is generally very presentable although there are a few minor
blemishes here and there.
A copy of the 56-page factory build sheets on
a USB stick shows that the car was completed in December 1974, the purchase
invoice showing that it cost £12,068. The original owner’s bookpack is also
present, including the original handbook, warranty card etc, plus a workshop
manual on CD and both master and chauffeur keys. The private plate shown is
also included, although quite how a 1975 car got a 1980 plate is something of a
mystery - it was originally registered as BVU 993N, becoming JON 259W in January
1991.
Starting promptly and running well as we have moved it around
on site, this graceful old Shadow looks a million dollars and is on offer here
at a very modest guide price. Go on, you only live once…
