2017 Sale Report
Quality Always Sells Well!
The final Elite Sport Horse sale of this year took place at Addington Manor EC on Saturday 2nd December and produced the best average price to date, showing an increase of £4,300.
The freezing cold weather did not deter anyone and we were pleased to see lots of eager prospective purchasers arriving at Addington from Friday morning, with trial rides and viewings taking place throughout the day.
Isobel Wessels and her riders, Daniel Bremner and Lucy Cartwright joined us on Friday evening and provided a very informative demonstration, talking about producing young horses and buying at auction, a process she is familiar with. Isobel also kindly bought along Frederico, a 4-year-old gelding by Franziskus, who she purchased at Addington last year.
The presentation of the dressage sale horses was again hugely popular and the number of online viewers was fantastic, reaching nearly 1100 from all over Europe. Prospective buyers were able to see the dressage sale horses under saddle and make their selections prior to the sale the following night.
On the night of the auction the VIP dinner tables were sold out, with almost 400 people sitting ringside and many more taking to the grandstand seating, creating a great atmosphere in the sale arena. Along with the familiar faces there were many new, with more dressage, show jumpers and event riders joining us.
Jumping horses came out on top again! The highest price achieved was £37,000 for Lot 34 Chatoon S, a striking grey 3-year-old gelding by Christian, out of Sensation (who herself jumped at 1.30m level). Chatoon S showed unbelievable scope and technique, which caught the eye of an international Irish rider.
The second highest price of £33,000 was achieved for Kensington W, the 2-year-old colt by Zavall. Kensington W showed all the qualities a stallion should have, and we look forward to seeing him out on the jumping circuit in a couple of years’ time. He was secured by New Priory Stud, who also own Funnycan, the 7-year-old daughter of Zavall, who was sold at Addington and was produced by the same stables as Kensington W; Stal Kamphuis.
The highest price Dressage horse, selling for £24,000, was Lot 27 Dark Diamond, a 3-year-old gelding by Desiderio out of State Premium mare, Samera.
International interest has grown year on year at the Addington sales. Last Saturday night, the jumping horses had interest from Poland, France, Australia, America, Switzerland and Russia, with three of the horses finding new homes overseas.
Lot 6 Gracia, the 2-year-old gelding by Grey Top is making his way to America, Lot 29 JB Ursina, the 3-year-old stallion by Eldorado, will be joining his half-brother Calgary XI in Switzerland at the home of Sandrine Berger, and Lot 40 Supersonic who had multiple phone bidders is heading to Texas in America.
Brightwells are delighted with the December 2017 results. Of course, we could not achieve it without the support of Addington Manor and our loyal vendors and purchasers, huge thanks go to them.
