Brightwells have had a successful start to 2018, with the first Elite sale held at Addington Manor Equestrian Centre achieving a pleasing turnover for the hand-picked collection of proven and potential dressage prospects.
Following last year’s sale, some changes were made to the sale schedule, which proved the right decision. The presentation of the sale horses took place on Thursday evening as opposed to Friday, allowing potential buyers more time to look and try horses prior to the sale. In fact, Friday and Saturday turned out to be very busy days, a record number of trial rides for just 14 horses it seemed.
Another alteration to last year was the time of the sale on Saturday. For the past two years, the sale has been held mid-afternoon, during a break in the competition at Addington. This year the plan was to hold the sale in the evening, when the competition had finished for the day. This proved the way forward, as the audience for the sale was the largest to date, meaning all competitors, spectators and potential bidders were able to watch and enjoy the sale.
Bidding got underway swiftly, with the first few lots being secured, but the excitement came when Lot 6 Instagram PF, the stunning 5-year-old son of Lord Leatherdale, entered the ring. The pre-sale promotional video of Instagram had attracted an astonishing amount of interest on social media, and it didn’t stop there, as potential buyers traveled far and wide to try him over Friday and Saturday prior to the sale. In the end the battle for him was between two phone bidders; one across the water in America and the other in the UK. The UK bidder finally securing him for a top price of £31,000. Instagram is one to watch and we look forward to seeing him take the stage in the Young Horse classes and beyond.
The second highest price went to Lot 12 Izaloe; a 5-year-old daughter of Jazz. Izaloe was consigned by the well-known Danish Stud, Blue Hors, who are responsible for lots of top licensed stallions. Izaloe is a full sister to the KWPN licensed stallion, Blue Hors Erlando. She has found a new home with the very talented Young Rider, Alex Hardwick of Hallingbury Hall Equestrian.
Brightwells were delighted to see faces from old, who continue to support these sales, but also many new faces, who were not familiar with buying at auction. Brightwells pride themselves on offering a professional service and offering a platform where clients can view a number of carefully selected horses that have passed stringent examination for acceptance into the sale, all under one roof. Clients can truly bid with confidence!
Of course, Brightwells could not hold these sale without the support of their agents and vendors, who spend hours and travel miles to find a suitable and quality collection of horses to offer.
