Sale Report...

The final sport horse sale of 2019 at Addington Equestrian, saw an increase in sale turnover compared to last year and a good average price of £13,000. Out of 49 horses catalogued, 46 were offered on the evening of Tuesday 3rd December, with 60% finding new homes. Buyers travelled far & wide to attend the sale, and with phone bidders in Switzerland, Sweden, Belgium & Qatar there were some exciting bidding wars.

Top price of the evening went to Lot 37 Kogola, a 4 year old daughter of El Clarimo, out of a mare who was related to numerous top level jumping horses. Kogola had been beautifully broken & produced by her rider who turned 16 years old just the week before. This mare was offered for sale directly from her breeder, who had also bought the ‘Black Beauty’ Lot 18 Liberty to the sale, once again a homebred. Bids were taken all around the room for the mare, but in the end it was a battle between two professional event riders, with Vicky Tuffs of GHF Equestrian securing Kogola for £32,000 and JP Sheffield walking away disappointed. JP has supported Brightwells sales for many years now, we hope to see him back again next year!

Lot 18 Liberty, the 3 year old son of Zonik, out of a proven dressage competition mare, caught the eye of another long standing customer in Sara Lucas, who secured him for a hammer price of £21,000.

The second highest price of the night was claimed by two 3 year old show jumpers. Lot 23 a 3 year old daughter of Toulon out of a Casall mare & Lot 48 Nina, a 3 year old mare by Numero Uno out of a Landadel mare, both made £25,000. Lot 23 was purchased by Horsepower Motor Centre & will be ridden by Arianna Kuligowski. Lot 48 has found a new home in Glasgow with show jumper Graham Gillespie. Both mares were sourced from Hendrik Zurich, from Germany. Hendrik has been supporting these sales for the last few years and does a truly outstanding job!

Lot 20 La Fayette W, a stunning roan mare by Berlin x Carthago has joined Angie Thompson’s stable, purchased by her owner in Qatar. The pocket rocket Lot 26 Quornath Da Vynco by Cornet Obolensky out of a 1.40m level mother, was purchased by Sir AP McCoy with the help of Ryan O’Sullivan, for his daughter Eve. Ryan trains Eve and will break & compete Quornath.

Professional event rider George Hilton-Jones was delighted to take two 3 year olds home, with the help of his owner Christine Hudson. Lot 35 Ludo S by Herald, who is a half-brother to several 1.40m level jumpers & Lot 42 by Ramiro B, whose mother evented up to 2* level with Ludwig Svennerstal, will join George’s team of eventers. Brightwells look forward to seeing them both at Burghley Young Event Horse qualifiers next year…..no pressure!
