The Hereford Shetland Pony Sale 2019
Held under the auspices of the Shetland Pony Stud Book Society.
Brightwells Auctioneers were honoured to have been offered the opportunity, by The Shetland Pony Stud Book Society to conduct their 2019 official sale of Registered Ponies, which was held at Hereford Market on Monday 30th September.
It turned out to be a super day with lovely ponies, good prices and lots of smiles from happy vendors and purchasers who had bought and sold throughout the day.
The space and facilities at the Hereford Market site were well received, with lots of compliments regarding the easy access, ample parking, catering, welfare precautions and spacious penning that Hereford Market is fortunate to offer.
The sale itself included plenty of highs with 12 lots selling for figures in excess of £1,000.00, and it’s believed that a new record auction price was set for a miniature Shetland foal, when Cyril Pearse’s Mardlebrook Yo Yo was secured for the majestic sum of £5,000.00 by her new owner via a telephone bid during one of the many exciting exchanges throughout the day.
Another exciting element of the day, away from the frenetic bidding, was the presence of a couple from Mumbai in India, who had travelled over to the sale to purchase the foundation stock for a miniature Shetland Pony Stud they are planning to launch in India. The day ended well for them when they managed to secure 5 lots which will shortly be exported back to their new home after the required paperwork and quarantine processes have been completed.

The sale was preceded by a splendid show of entries overseen by Mr Nick True who did an excellent job in judging the good numbers that were presented under him.
Supreme Champion was lot 125 Mrs & Mrs C T Percy’s 2-year-old-filly Snelsmore Ulrica who later achieved a very pleasing hammer price of £2,700.00, with Mr Cyril Pearse’s colt foal, Lot 28 Mardlebrook Yogi Bear awarded Reserve Champion status and a subsequent sale price of £480.00.
The sale attracted a great crowd who had travelled from all quarters of the UK, the Continent, as well as our Indian visitors. Our breeders and vendors were seemingly very pleased that the virtues of their stock and bloodlines will now be enjoyed and appreciated by an ever-growing and wider worldwide audience than before.
Brightwells Auctioneers are proud to have conducted this sale and if awarded SPSBS official status for 2020 will endeavor to make that event as enjoyable and successful as it has been in 2019. Ends.
