One of three Series 2 Jaguar E-Type Coupes in our sale today, this 1969 example has recently returned to these shores following a life spent in the hot California sunshine – hence the good state of preservation today.
Although it looks rough at first sight, the vendor assures us that beneath that scruffy exterior there is a good car just waiting to leap out. As you can hopefully see in the many detail photos on our website, all the important bits are virtually rust-free and the panel gaps are good. The vendor believes that perhaps the weakest aspect of the structure is a small section on the floor pan where someone has cut a patch out to get at the nearside seat bolts.
The interior appears to be complete but will obviously require extensive refurbishment. The chrome wire wheels are in decent order but the tyres will need to be replaced due to age. Under the bonnet the engine appears to be oil-leak-free and we are told that it turns easily and has compression, although no attempt has been made to start it.
Supplied with a NOVA reference to show that all duties have been paid, it also has a US Certificate of Title so getting it UK registered should be no more than a bureaucratic exercise with the requisite DVLA form once it has secured a new MOT.
Easily converted to RHD if desired using a kit of parts readily available from specialists such as SNG Barratt, this is an excellent base for a straightforward restoration project that should amply reward the remedial works required.
