One of a trio of Shadows on offer in today’s sale, this January 1974 example is the earlier MkI version with the elegant slim chrome bumpers that were lost on the MkII versions which were introduced in 1977.
Finished in Mink over Caribbean Blue with matching blue hide, it has had just one owner from new and has only covered 83,900 miles to date.
The interior retains a wonderful ambience of luxury, the walnut cappings have been treated to light refurbishment and re-lacquered, the armchair seats have just enough patina to feel like old friends and the engine emits a lovely burble from its 6.75-litre V8. The brightwork all looks to be in good order and the bodywork clean.
The history file is comprehensive, with a host of maintenance and parts invoices to support the mileage. Put into storage about 10 years ago, it has recently been lightly recommissioned for sale, flying through its MOT in November with only one advisory recorded, ‘underside and brake pipes coated in a rust proofing’ (surely a good thing?).
These regal old Shadows are a real pleasure to own and drive with an unrivalled ride quality and plenty of low down grunt. Rarely does a one-owner car come to market so grab this one while you can!
