Anyone who remembers the Austin Maxi will doubtless remember that the front seats fold down flat to create a double bed.
They should also remember that sleeping it off in a parked motor vehicle still lays you open to the charge of being in control while under the influence. But don’t let that put you off from buying this car.
This one-owner 1977 Maxi is a barn find beauty in unmolested and original form. The interior would not look out of place in a National Trust property and lends credence to the vendor's belief that the 23,669 miles showing on the clock could well be correct. It is a very solid car – and for a Maxi that is saying something. Even the anti-corrosion coating is still in place.
The new owner might wish to bring the car back to 'as new' condition on the basis that his dad had one, or perhaps because it was always the car he’d promised himself but could never afford (well, all things are possible...). Or perhaps he or she might consider creating a Bron Burrell replica? Those of you who need to look that reference up can be assured that the flared trousers and page boy haircuts are optional.
