How many of the visitors who throng annually to the sprawling metropolis of Tonypandy, the throbbing heart of the Rhondda Cynon Taf, would realise that it was once home to a mighty motorcycle empire?
Few, probably. But then the Bown motorcycle was not, perhaps, the most successful motorcycle in the world although it may claim to be Wales’s most successful. And we should point out that the Bown was actually made in Llwynypia, just down the road from Tonypandy (but you knew that didn’t you?).
Powered (to use the term loosely) by a 98cc Villers IF two stroke engine the Bown was made between 1951 and 1953, which puts ‘our’ bike bang in the middle of production. LSJ 440 oozes charm and originality and it would be a cruel man who would restore it. Enjoy it for what it is. The bike comes with its original handbook, V5C and some research documents.
