Now here’s something you don’t see every day: a fantastic XJ40 Daimler 3.6 Automatic that has only covered 13,892 miles from new and remains in time warp condition.
This car was ordered new by McKenna Funeral Directors in Preston, Lancashire (hence the black paintwork) where it led a pampered life as a spare vehicle to support the main fleet of cars. It therefore clocked up very few miles while in service, all at a very stately pace indeed. It stayed with the funeral parlour until 2009 when it passed into the hands of the owner of the business.
Tucked away in his garage for the next five years and barely used, it was recommissioned in 2014 and has done less than 500 miles since. Flying through its MOT in April this year with just one minor advisory (‘n/s rear sub-frame rubber bush deteriorated’) it could be a genuine concours contender with little more than a weekend’s worth of detailing.
