This set of  prints variously engraved by Pollard and Jukes, are based on four watercolours by Dayes, which he produced early on  in his professional career. He had exhibited the views of Queen Square and Bloomsbury Square at the Royal Academy in 1787.
Queen Square was laid out in the early eighteenth century (just east of  Russell Square), and was distinguished for its open prospect of country-side looking towards Hampstead in the north. The other squares depicted by Dayes also date from an early period of London square building
