The artist lived at Chilworth near Romsey, Hants. His family having originally moved there from Salisbury in 1850. Albert worked from a studio at their house Chilworth Towers for over half a century. His works characterised by his meticulous detailed style, executed in a pre-Raphaelite manner. Lucas exhibited widely, frequently in London, and also more locally at exhibitions with the Southampton Art Society. In 1880 he won a gold medal at an international exhibition held at Melbourne, Australia.
