The Turk's Head at Eton dated from 1520, and was an alehouse at the time that the artist depicted it.

Another version by the artist of the same subject was sold at Sotheby's, London 26th Sept 2007.

Edmund Bristow was born in Eton and spent the whole of his life working in Windsor. The majority of Bristow's patrons were local to the area, and  included Princess Elizabeth (1770-1840) and the Duke of Clarence, later William IV
