16 x 18 1/2 in  (40.7 x 47.1cm) and slightly smaller; two (2)

The artist studied Yamato-e painting under Kobori Tomone , and his career spanned the late Meiji period to the early Showa period From 1907 he exhibited at various Bunten Exhibitions, but in 1913  all the paintings by Kokkan and his artist brothers were rejected at the 7th Annual Bunten exhibition.Angered by this he organised a counter exhibition in protest at the internal politics of the Bunten.Thereafter he continued to rebal against Government Exhibitions preferring to exhibit with the Hakkakai Group that he had co-founded. He died in 1945
