Full Description

1990 Lotus Elan SE Turbo (M100)

Showing just 67,756 miles these turbocharged go-karts go as well as they look and handle like they're on rails - proper Modern Classics!

Supplied new by Christow Carriage Co. Ltd of Exeter in September 1990 and finished in red with a black Mohair (manually operated) soft-top, two-tone grey with red leather interior and original OZ 15inch Route alloy wheels this tidy series 1 M100 series Elan features the 1.6 Isuzu sourced four-cylinder engine extensively modified by Lotus. Extra oomph came from the IHI turbo resulting in 162bhp, more than enough to excite in such a small, neat and critically, lightweight front-wheel drive package.

Our vendor has enjoyed his time with the car but feels it needs more regular use than he is able to give it, the car showing just 67,756 miles - comparatively low mileage for an M100, many have done 170,000 nowadays!

In the history file we see a V5C, tool kit, owner’s manuals with service section showing 12 service stamps, the last stamp in 2004 at 52,4732 miles by an independent in Wrexham. We also have a certificate and invoice for installation of a Cat-1 Clifford Concept 500 alarm system costing some £550 in September 2004, 6 old MOTs, current MOT valid until October 2021 with just one minor advisory for a brake pipe corroded, or covered in grease and a selection of invoices.

Within the invoices, we see it was treated to a replacement cam angle sensor at £190 in December 2004 to cure an EML light, a repair to the engine mounting plate in October 2005 at a cost of £710, routine service in 2005, recondition turbo in September 2004 as part of a service at a cost of £1,961 plus other historic routine servicing bills but little in recent years.

Presenting well, with attractive low mileage and a reconditioned turbo these little Elans seem undervalued given their heritage and performance capability. One to watch for the future we feel.
