Full Description

1987 Ford Capri 280 Brooklands

One of only 1,038 made; only 69,600 miles indicated; extensively recommissioned following several years in storage

The Capri 280 Brooklands was the last and, for many, the best of the various Capri models produced by Ford from 1969 until 1986.
Only 1,038 Brooklands models were made, all using the same 160bhp engine and 5-speed gearbox as the 2.8 Injection but with various special features including a limited slip diff, Brooklands Green paintwork, full leather Recaro sports interior and special 15" seven-spoke alloy wheels. Not only did the V6 engine sound fantastic, it could also propel the car to a top speed of 130mph.
Dating from August 1987, this Brooklands has had just one registered keeper since 2011 and comes with 11 old MOTs showing the mileage rising from 40,014 in 1997 to 69,041 in 2009 when the car was taken off the road. Recently brought out of storage it has been comprehensively recommissioned with many parts either renewed or rebuilt.
Although there are no bills for all the work carried out, the results are plain to see. The main points include: engine and gearbox removed, stripped and rebuilt with reconditioned fuel injectors and metering unit; new clutch assembly; LSD axle checked and serviced; radiator re-cored and all new hoses; new brakes throughout including discs and calipers; new exhaust system with tubular manifolds; new fuel tank and pump; new steering rack and pipework; new springs and rebuilt Bilstein dampers; original 15" wheels refurbished and new tyres fitted.
We are told that the outer panels are all original Ford items and the car retains the correct grey leather interior, Ford radio and parcel shelf. As good underneath as it is up top, it still shows only 69,600 miles on the clock which is almost certainly correct and comes with an MOT until January 2021 with no advisories recorded.
With top examples already making £30k+ at auction and one of only around 500 Brooklands models still UK registered today, this low-mileage beastie could yet prove a canny buy at the sensible guide price suggested.
