Full Description

1972 Triumph Stag Automatic

Current owner 14 years; kept garaged and used sparingly; nice interior; runs and drives but in need of a good service and light restoration

First registered in November 1972, this Triumph Stag Automatic has been in the current ownership since 2007 and has always been kept garaged and used sparingly in fine weather only, covering only 4,600 miles in this 14-year period. In fact 22 old MOTs show that it has only covered some 13,700 miles since 1993, the last MOT having expired in 2019.
A good file of invoices attest to regular upkeep since 2007. This included localised bodywork repairs to the floors and sills in 2007; a new walnut dashboard and centre console in 2008 which cost £1,145 including fitting; Lumenition electronic ignition was also fitted in the same year along with a new set of Firestone tyres; reconditioned brake servo and master cylinder in 2011; carburettors overhauled and new coolant hoses fitted in 2017.
As you can see in the photos, the car is now in need of some further attention to the bodywork, mainly around the o/s rear wheel arch. A new ignition switch is also required and the driver’s seat would benefit from new seat foams. We are told that the car starts, runs and drives and was last in use about 18 months ago. Since arrival at Brightwells it has developed a fuel leak at the back which has prevented us from starting the engine.

Finished in eye-catching yellow and riding on some nice period Wolfrace alloys, it comes with various workshop manuals which will no doubt come in handy. On offer here at a modest guide price as a straightforward project, it shouldn’t need much more than a good service to get it roadworthy and could be improved over time as desired.
