Full Description

1990 Renault 5 GT Turbo

Attractive 90's hot hatch with punchy 1.4 litre turbo showing under 64,000 miles in lovely order

Dating from September 1990 this Phase 2 Renault 5 GT Turbo boasts the potent 1.4 litre turbocharged four-cylinder developing 120bhp in stock form from its Garrett T2 water-cooled turbo charger making for lots of smiles per mile.

This smart little example has seen useful recent expenditure in the last 18 months, the history file including an array of bills for a replacement door locking mechanism, new bottom ball joints, replacement rear discs and pads, fuel tank support strap, new alternator, new bulbs, steering rack refurb kit, fitting kit for the car’s factory body-kit, new water pump and back housing, two new rear shockers and replacement head gasket and cylinder head in January 2020 by CGB Motorsport which should be good news for the lucky new owner.

The car has been subject to a colour change from white to red in February 2011 when we suspect the car was restored given its current condition. Inside, the car has worn its age and miles well, with retro fit red and yellow dials and an uncommonly intact rear parcel shelf and clean boot floor.

The car started promptly when we manoeuvred it around for these shots burbling nicely through the big bore Prima Racing back box and exhaust. Sat upon its original ‘throwing star’ alloy wheels the car still looks the business in a gloriously 80’s kind of way. Under the bonnet we find a retro fit blow off valve and some retro fit blue silicone hoses, all common upgrades over the stock items.

In addition to the V5C, the current MOT runs until May 2022 with only one advisory for a slightly defective nearside headlamp deflector and 7 old MOTs. The mileage currently reads 63,773, however there looks to be a mileage discrepancy between 2007-2009 when the gauge binnacle was changed (this is included) and the mileage drops from 93,935 to c.67,000 miles with the replacement speedo.

R5 GT Turbos are hot stuff and have steadily risen in value, and this looks like a bright little car which can be enjoyed and admired at the many car gatherings now getting underway.
