Brightwells report a very pleasing store cattle sale at Rhayader on Wednesday 15th April. Even though there is a falling fat trade a full yard of nearly 250 cattle met with a good demand throughout.

The steers averaged 222p/kg with a top price per kg of 263p/kg for a 10 month old Charolais Steer 400g - £1050 from C Wozencraft, Bryndraenog.  The top price per head was £1300 for a 600kg Limousin cross steer again from C Wozencraft, Bryndraenog.  
The heifers averaged 215.3p/kg with a top price per kg of 268p/kg for a Pure Charolais Heifer 440kg - £1180 from J W Rees & Son, Nantyhendy.  The top price per head was £1315 for a 620kg heifer again from J W Rees & Son, Nantyhendy. 
A notable feature of the sale was the two marvellous large consignments of Charolais cross cattle from AL Davies & Sons, Park and WET & JA Pugh, Parc.  AL Davies & Sons sold their 9 – 11 month steers to average £1033 and their 9 – 12 month old heifers to average £876.  WET & JA Pugh sold their 11 – 14 month steers to average £1062 and their 10 – 14 month old heifers to average £840.
