Pre Christmas Wine Auction attracts buyers from all over the world
A superb selection of Vintage Wine, Port, Champagne and Malt Whisky was offered at Brightwells’ Wine Sale on 2nd December.
There was a strong turnout in the saleroom and also internet bidders from France, Hong Kong and the length of the British Isles.
The auction began with the Red Bordeaux category. Over 100 lots were offered and they included the top priced lot of the day – a case of Chateau Lafite 2000 which achieved £8,500 in bond. Several private collections of Bordeaux proved very popular with buyers with many lots reaching four figures.
Christmas is traditionally a time when Ports are consumed or given as a gift. The Vintage Port section was both extensive and popular. 2 cases of Warre’s 1977 achieved £520 apiece and a single bottle of Graham’s 1948 reached £390.
The pre-sale tasting included a bottle of Niepoort 1983. Buyers appreciated the chance to try this, and the hammer fell on two 6 bottle lots at £330 and £320.
A superb selection of Whisky and Cognac formed the latter part of the auction with rare single malts such as Brora 26 year old (£500) and Macallan Gran Reserva 1979 18 year old (£440) doing very well.
2 Baccarat Crystal decanters of Remy Martin Louis XIII sold at £850 each.
In all over 550 lots were offered, Brightwells Wine Consultant Paddy Shave was very pleased with the result.
‘There was a real buzz in the room today and the fact that we are attracting bidders from all over the world is very encouraging’.
