‘Collector’s Paradise’ at Brightwells’ Wine Sale

Brightwells’ pre-Christmas Wine Auction promises to be one of their biggest to date with a large number of private collections of fine wine and port set to come under the hammer.

The auction will take place at 12 noon on Wednesday 30th November at the Easters Court Saleroom in Leominster. It will be on view on Monday 28th from 9am – 5pm and Tuesday 29th from 9am – 7pm.

The catalogue opens with a large selection of Claret. Over 100 lots from the Bordeaux region will be offered, including wines from the great Chateaux of Lafite, Latour and Mouton Rothschild. A 12 bottle case of Mouton Rothschild 1986 is one of the rarer lots, offered at £4,000-5,000 in bond. The sweet white wines of Sauternes also feature, with a 3 bottle lot of Chateau Yquem 1991 expected to achieve £500 - £600.

Red and White Burgundy lovers will be well served with a large quantity of Gevrey Chambertin, Nuits St Georges, Meursault and Puligny Montrachet in the catalogue. Many of these will be available for tasting between 3pm and 7pm on Tuesday 29th and from 9 am – 11 am on the morning of the sale.

As the nights get colder and darker many people look forward to a glass of Vintage Port at the end of a meal, a perfect accompaniment to a slice or two of cheese by a roaring fire. Over 60 lots of Port will be offered, with the great vintages of 1960, 1963, 1966, 1970 and 1977 all very well represented. Highlights include 12 bottles of Grahams 1963 (£1200 - £1500) and 12 bottles of Croft 1963 (£800 - £1100).

An exceptional private collection of over 1,000 bottles from some of the best Australian vineyards is to be sold in 120 lots. Red Wines from Torbreck, Fox Creek, Craneford and D’Arenburg form the bulk of the collection. The vendor is moving overseas so is selling the contents of his cellar with a heavy heart!

Interest in Malt Whisky has never been higher and a number of very rare bottles are set to come under the hammer: A bottle of Glenfarclas 1954 from a single cask will be sold with a guide of £2000 - £2600; a rare bottle of Springbank 1966 ‘Local Barley’ also has a guide price of £2,000 - £2,600. The Malt Whisky and Cognac section runs to just over 80 lots.

In all over 600 lots will be offered. Brightwells’ Wine Consultant Paddy Shave is delighted with the range of Wines, Port and Spirits on offer.

“I think this sale will be popular with collectors, investors, trade buyers and restaurateurs. It’s also perfect for buyers looking for a few special bottles to serve over the Christmas period”.

Buyers are able to bid live in the saleroom, by telephone, commission or via the Brightwells Live Internet Bidding System available through Brightwells.com
