Invest in the Next Generation of Classic Car
A few notable highlights of the Modern Classic Sale on the 8th December include the highly desirable, and last of the air-cooled generation Porsche 993. From long term ownership and in storage for a number of years this spanking example features fourwheel drive and a 6 speed manual gearbox. Arguably the most appealing combination and with only 72,000 miles on the clock this super silver 911 looks and sounds superb. It will no doubt continue to rise in value as the market continues to demand good low mileage 993’s.
Another to consider is the rare and low mileage (58,000 indicated) manual 1986 Alfa Romeo GTV6, no doubt we all remember Bond tearing through Cold War stricken Germany in one of the best sounding engines of all time, the “Busso V6” to de-arm the inevitable bomb in a circus tent in the film Octopussy.
There are also a brace of Ford Zetec powered kit-cars built by Raw of Herefordshire, for a Nigerian Zombie movie, sadly this never came to fruition. They were subtly modified for the film including a black vinyl wrap and unique lights. Both are un-registered and will no doubt provide oodles of fun tearing up a hill-climb or around an airfield once SVA passed. They are also both offered here with no reserve.
If open top motoring is your thing, a selection of flat-six engined Boxsters and a brace of BMW Z4’s might tempt you, especially when combined with a warm bum on the heated seats of the triple black 2.5 Z4 this winter. If your pocket stretches deeper, then perhaps the Eurospec LHD Targa topped Ferrari 348TS with only 17,000 miles on the clock, which spent time in both Switzerland and Canada with its original owner before coming to the UK, may tempt you. This is another good bet for further investment growth as values have risen in a pronounced fashion over the last few years. It would be ideal to keep in the villa in the South of France (should you be lucky enough!).
If PR is what you crave then the fully liveried Skoda Fabia VRS would no doubt attract sufficient attention to get you and your business noticed, or perhaps the big Jeep CJ with its huge mud-plugger style wheels and awesome 5.9 V8 that no doubt would attract the attention and awe of all passers-by!
Perhaps discreet speed and prowess is more up your street…..maybe in the form of a Saffron orange Volvo V70R, popular with both police and those being pursued back in the 90’s! With the dark months upon us, evenings and weekends could be filled by giving the very rare Alfa 155 Q4 the attention it deserves, with its Lancia Integrale based running gear and all-wheel drive this car is crying out to be put back on the road and used as it was intended – retro cool doesn’t get much more “Q-car cool” than this.
The key with this new market is that the cars are not only affordable, but also usable and enjoyable. Clearly the market is continuing to expand, as the younger generations reach the stage of affording the cars they (we!) pined after in their youth. The focus continues to edge away from the traditional image of a “classic car” and move towards the Modern Classic with a vast array of choice and manufacturers that stock readily available and affordable parts. Large social scenes such as Car-Fest and numerous Breakfast club meets with nationwide cruises, track days and rallys have all helped to spark an interest in this area and it’s no surprise we have sold over 70% at both previous Modern Classics auctions and we hope to achieve the same or higher for this sale.
Go on, treat yourself and get involved!
