The Recipe for Success
Combining carefully selected stock with a large audience of knowledgeable and notable names from the worlds of Jumping, Dressage and Eventing proved to be the perfect ingredients needed, to produce two evenings of success at this year’s Addington Equestrian Centre for the 2017 August Elite sales held there.
Friday evenings sale of Anglo European Studbook selected foals was the second of these annual sale’s, where Brightwells have joined forces with the AES to present and sell a catalogue of British Bred sport horse foals which the AES team had sourced and selected from all corners of the United Kingdom.
The foal selection process, headed by Dr Eva Maria Broomer of the AES certainly seemed to have paid dividends, when firstly a record price of £24,000 for a sport horse foal sold by Brightwells was achieved, and then secondly when the average price from last year’s sale increased by over £3,000, to an impressive figure of £7,230 for the 21 foals sold out of the 41 offered.
Lot 40 was Peter & Kelly White’s beautifully presented filly PK Bright Star by the Olympic Gold Medal Winner Big Star, who achieved a tremendous £24,000 and was out of their State Premium mare Alegrina D, who the Whites had purchased previously at The Verden Elite Sales in Germany. The two other 5 figure sums of £12,000 and £11,500 were coincidentally for 2 fillies by the stallion Luidam Elite, who was responsible for Oliver Gibney’s Lot 13 Olistars Lucina (Andiamo) making £12,000 and Derek Ricketts Lot 35 Market Damsel (Tinkas Boy) who sold for £11,500. The highest price paid for a dressage foal was £8,000 which was given for Lot 32 Volatis Ferriamo from the Volatis Stud stable of Sacha Shaw.
Eva Broomer of the AES, commented on how thrilled she and the AES are, with the progress and rapid development the sale has made in such a short space of time. Eva said “this is only our second sale and already we’ve produced a major uplift of £3,000 in the average price, we’ve achieved a record top price of £24,000 and we’ve also lifted last year’s sale aggregate by a remarkable 50%”. “These are impressive and undeniable figures, and this sale has already demonstrated that there is a good and vibrant demand for British Breeders home produced foals, which they have brought from all corners of the UK to Addington to present in front of a large and appreciative audience of buyers at this sale”
Saturday night was the turn of the young jumpers and dressage horses, where more good news was in store.
66 lots were offered with 41 selling to new homes. The sale aggregate increased by £30,000 from last year and a top price of £39,000 was recorded twice.
The first £39,000 was for the Wildcard entry Lot 25A Creto, a 7-year-old dressage mare by Conteur who has been competing at Medium Level in Holland, with the second highest price for a dressage prospect being the £24,000 that was paid for Lot 27 Rosebud, a 3-year-old gelding by Rock Forever II.
However, Saturday nights sale belonged more to the jumping prospects, with prices of £39,000 for Lot 70 Gember Z, a 3yo stallion by the thoroughbred stallion Gemini CL, out of a mare by Berlin. Gember showed tremendous scope on the night and effortless technique! £38,000 was achieved by Lot 42 Julyander JHX, a 3yo mare by mare by Cardento out of a mare by Odermus R.
Thursday night’s loose jumping presentation was hugely popular and the numbers of online viewers was fantastic, in excess of 5000 people watched the live stream from all over the world incl. Bermuda, Hungary, Indonesia, USA, as well as all over Europe. The sale on Saturday reached a total of 6500 viewers online.
The interest from overseas purchasers has increased year on year. Lot 18 Billionaire, a 3yo British Bred mare by Balou Du Rouet was sold to Canada and Lot 17 Jewel’s Goldrush by Cardento, is off to Florida! There was also international interest in the foals with phone bids from Belgium and New Zealand.
Brightwells are delighted with the August 2017 results. Of course, we could not achieve it without the support of our vendors and purchasers, huge thanks go to them.
Selections are already underway for the December Elite sale. We look forward to seeing you there!
