Chefs often recommend ‘Burgundy with The Bird’ on Christmas day and for something really special three 12 bottle cases will be offered from the iconic vineyards of Domaine de la Romanee Conti: The cases are all from the much heralded 1969 vintage and comprise 12 bottles each of Echezaux (£4000 - £6000), Richebourg(£6000 - £8000) and La Tache (£20,000 - £26,000).
As the nights get colder and darker many people look forward to a glass of Vintage Port at the end of a meal, a perfect accompaniment to a slice or two of cheese by a roaring fire. Over 60 lots of Port will be offered, with the great vintages of 1960, 1963, 1966, 1970 and 1977 all very well represented. Highlights include 12 bottles of Taylor’s 1977 (£600 - £800) and 4 rare individual bottles of Taylor’s 1927 (£800 - £1100 each
For those looking for more reasonably priced festive fare there is an excellent selection of fine French, Italian and New World wines with guide prices of around £100. For Claret lovers 7 cases of Chateau Haut Villars Fronsac 1996 will be offered at £100 - £140 per dozen botles and a good selection of White Burgundy features wines from Macon, Chablis and Meursault. Fans of Italian sparkling wines will be well served with a number of cases of Gemin Spumante, a real gem from Northern Italy being offered at £60 - £80 per dozen bottles. This wine will be available for tasting.
The popularity of rare malt whisky shows no sign of abating and over 150 rare bottles are set to come under the hammer. Collections from the ‘Rare Malts’, ‘First Cask’ and Scotch Malt Whisky Society will all be offered, many from distilleries that have since closed down. A 25 year old anniversary bottling of Macallan from the late 1950s will be sold with a guide of £2000 - £2600 and a rare bottle of Bowmore 1971 vintage 21 year old will be offered at £1000 - £1400.
