Plant, Machinery & HGVs May Report
Our fifth sale of the year saw some interesting results for us. There was a noticeable change in which sections had more entries, and a strong demand throughout the day. We had more lorries & HGVs than ever, and this was the first month in my memory where the value of HGVs sold would be comparable to the value of the contractors plant. We also had a very strong entry of tractors including plenty of 2-4 year old examples, including machines over 300hp!
Plant entries were slightly down on this time last month. We had a short month leading up to this auction, including 3 bank holidays. Along with the current lack of used machinery throughout the UK, this has meant that everyone in our industry must work harder to find the best quality used machinery to supply to hungry customers. We had nothing this month of markable “high” value. There was plenty on offer around £15,000-£25,000 and we made strong money of lots of the machinery in this price range. Indeed, we saw a resurgence in demand for many examples. There were a small handful of machines left over from April’s auction which achieved considerably higher bids this month than they did originally. We have worked tirelessly over recent months to improve our presence within the market and this is paying off well now. We were pleased to offer equipment from over a dozen national hire firms as well as construction businesses, finance companies & private contractors. Not only do we have some great selling relationships with these companies, but we also supply huge numbers of machines directly to end users, as well as working with finance companies to arrange funding. If you run a fleet of machinery or have any need to realise value from diggers, telehandlers, dumpers, dozers, rollers or access equipment then why not follow the link at the end of this report to see our full results from May’s auction, or give us a call on 01981 250642 to find out more about the services we can provide for your business.
I would normally talk about the tractor trade next, but this month I feel like I need to address the fantastic trade and results we had in the HGV rows. In the 100 minutes we spent selling trucks last Friday we averaged over £12,000 per lot. This is a huge change up from the usual pace & we were delighted to see such high demand. Truck buyers from all over the UK registered online and made the journey to our little corner of Herefordshire to compete over some stunning road going vehicles and we hope this is the start of a new chapter for this part of the sale. This month’s jump in entries was partly down to a strong entry direct from Hitachi Capital Vehicle Solutions, we also offered 8 vehicles which had come to us from Highways England, through our MOD contract. We are always excited to hear from fleet managers, haulage firms & anyone who may wish to make use of our services and utilise our sales platform to their advantage. Don’t just read my ramblings though, follow the link below to the full results table & call us for more info.
Tractors were as plentiful as they ever have been with us this month. There was a perfect mix of machines, with anything from the early 80s, right up to a 300+ hp New Holland manufactured a little over 2 years ago! We offered popular brands and less main stream makes. We had high hour standard tractors & low hour mountain tractors. Some had loaders, some had mowers, some did 80kph. We had a tractor in the yard suitable for any application at almost any budget, and by the end of the day we had very few tractors left unclaimed! The average price of a tractor bought from our yard in May was in excess of £18,000. This section was strongly entered by UK main agents & finance companies, as well as many local farmers entrusting us with their tractors. We can offer a great alternative to a straight part exchange or underwrite deal. It would also be appropriate at this point to mention our farm machinery row. This has been a little over crowded recently and not a great start to the day. This month we made a few changes and were able to successfully offer some higher priced items while also achieving a higher clearance rate across all implements sold on the day. We are already looking forward to our next sale on the 14th June and our gates are open for fresh stock! Get in touch now & share in the success of our unparalleled monthly auction. Grass cutting season is in full swing now & that was apparent from both the number of machines we offered and the frenzy of bidding surrounding every machine in the grounds care section! With this section over running and selling still going on when we would usually have reached the tractors, I witnessed quite possibly the largest crowd I’ve ever seen in Madley surrounding the rostrum. We had very few council machines offered this month but anticipate a large consignment for our June auction. Spaces fill up quickly in this row as we have to keep it particularly full of higher value items so get in touch now to reserve your lot numbers & enter your machinery.
Quads, UTVs & trailers all sold as reliably as ever. We had a nice collection of environment agency & finance trailers as well as a handful of council quad bikes. There were several strong results from some of our regular vendors and these can all be found in the full results listings below.
Year on year, our auctions continue to grow in size and value, and we are working tirelessly, every month to keep on top of this and provide the same personal, individual service which has got us to where we are now. We work with you to understand what is important for you and your business and we make this our priority. We can help find you the most cost-effective method of remarketing any surplus assets. As an example of this we currently have a timed auction of workboats finishing on May 21st. Take a look & leave a bid now: https://www.brightwellslive.com/timedauctions/index/4763
