And that’s a wrap for the year! Another 12 fantastic plant & machinery auctions as well as several timed online, off site, farm & dispersal sales. Typically a quiet time of year for many of our clients, December often yields good sales here. We were fortunate to have a strong entry & a large number of buyers in the yard and online.

After the result of the general election & subsequent strengthening of the value of the pound, we were expecting to see a decline in export demand. This was certainly not the case though. We had a huge value and quantity of lots which were sold all over the world. Our online bidding system was well utilized, with well over a quarter of the value of the kit in our yard sold to online bidders.

We had a really good selection of fresh and genuine excavators this month. Loads were less than 5 years old, direct from use and low houred. These are always the best kind of machine to sell and command some top prices. There was a good mix of sizes, our large plant section was completely full, as well as having a near capacity entry in the 1-8T excavator line. It wasn’t just digging kit that did well, lifting gear was also well sought after with a pair of Volvo shovels doing well, as well as a large number of tidy JCB telehandlers & loads more examples. We saw a bumper entry of rollers this month, including a strong selection of 120 & 135 rolls, this usefully large size of roller always performs well under the hammer as they deliver a lot of compaction for the price. The only section of plant which looked a little thin on the ground was in the dumper row. The dumper is often the last machine on the fleet to be considered for an upgrade so it’s no surprise that there are not so many flooding the market at the moment. We struggled to fill the tractor row this time round. There were not many entered from councils or finance companies and this has a knock-on effect on getting tractors consigned from other vendors. Never fear however, the prices fetched were through the roof! We saw some great bidding wars and plenty of money being given for what was on site. A good amount of export buyers really helped buoy interests & keep the money flowing. There were plenty of HGVs & commercial vehicles to go at this month, we had a fantastic trade, dominated by some fresh and genuine examples, ready to go straight to work again. We have started several new contracts recently and these are really paying off, bringing some great new buyers & really helping push prices up throughout the row. We are fortunate to have contracts & agreements with many “blue light” fleets as well as councils & leasing companies. This section of our sale has been hugely successful and steadily growing for a long time now. We look forward to seeing what trade will do in the new year and how this area of our business will develop. Despite it being somewhat the wrong time of year for mowing, we made some good money of a lot of mowing & grounds maintenance equipment. A repossessed tracked chipper was the highlight of the show in this section and we have a few similar machines already booked in for January’s auction. As well as that we had several large mowers which fetched good money. In recent years we have seen little to no “seasonality” in grounds maintenance values. Farm machinery, UTVs & trailers all had a good trade as well. There were several high value agricultural implements in the non-direct sections which made cracking money! We also had a good number of off road/utility vehicles which sold for strong money and will no doubt be seen traversing the countryside soon, as part of shoot followings or carrying stock supplies.
