£10,000 barrier broken at Greenyards Dispersal Sale

The Greenyards Herd of Pedigree Herefords Sale Report

Brightwells are pleased to report a large crowd to witness an excellent dispersal sale of the Greenyards Herd on behalf of Phil and Alison Allman. The herd was established in 2003 and has been a successful herd with some excellent bloodlines and families.

The sale kicked off on an excellent note with lot 1 Greenyards 1 Echo 3rd, a 2007 cow in-calf to Legend hitting 4000 gns selling over the phone to Anders Montensen Woodland Hereford in Denmark.

Lot 12 Greenyards 1 Hannah caught the attention of several breeders, this super cow eventually selling at 5,700 gns to Mr Nigel Owens (Welsh International Rugby Referee) who is establishing a very nice herd in Carmarthenshire.

Greenyards 1 Jubilee also created excellent interest selling at 5,500, however it was Lot 15 Greenyard 1 Truelove that hit the high notes crashing over 10,000 gns to 10,200 selling jointly to Sky High Herefords and Grifford Herefords.

In general, the cows sold between 2,000 to 3,000 gns with several breaking 3,000 selling to several local herds with some travelling further a field. Very few under 2,000 which reflected the quality on show.

The in-calf heifers topped at 2.400 gns for Lot 57 Greenyards 1 Duchess in-calf to Greenyards 1 Rascal, other in-calf heifers from 850 gns to 2,000 gns.

The maiden heifers had created interested all morning with large crowds in the pens pre-sale. These topped at 3,000 gns for Lot 67 Greenyards 1 Truelove S481 selling Edward Lewis & Family, Haven Herefords. The last female of the day caught the eye selling at 2,900 gns with other smarter heifers from 2,000 – 2,600 gns.

The Bulls were the steadiest trade, with several on offer and many that were on the young side. The stronger sorts from 1200 gns to 2000 gns. The younger end from 750 to 1000 gns.

Following the sale of cattle, both seman and embryos were offered, these created excellent interest with several telephone bidders. 2 straws of Doonbiddie Hustler topper at £1,100, creating huge interest. 10 straws of Greenyards 1 Archie topped at £500.

In the embroys, Harvey Miss Firefly topped at £450 with Dendor 1 Contessa to £420, Broatch 1 June to £200.
