Plant, Machinery & HGVs October Online Report
Well the weather seemed to have dropped off for this month’s sale, but trade certainly hadn’t! The international demand for used equipment continues to grow, driving prices higher than ever. This month saw an upturn in the number of tractors we had entered, and we continued to achieve an over 75% clearance rate. Construction plant & machinery really has become a huge struggle for everyone in our industry to find, meaning a free market, auction environment has got the be the best place to sell used equipment. Our sale has seen more registered buyers than ever, from all over the world. Equally importantly we allow our vendors complete control over defending the value of their asset by setting reserves at no cost, this is now more essential than ever with the threat of another lock down hanging over us and the Brexit transition period soon to be over. Why risk market fluctuations?
Looking forward to our next sale on the 13th November, this one is usually oversubscribed, and we find ourselves with a long day of selling. Already we have entries coming to us from several national hire fleets and contract leasing companies. As the nights close in and days get shorter, it is now becoming more important to get machinery to us early in the month to get maximum exposure time on our website and allow for people to inspect the items on site so they can bid with confidence.
Also coming up in a couple of weeks’ time is a one off timed auction of a narrow boat hull, currently moored up in Sunbury on Thames after having been sunk and then recovered by the Environment Agency. So, what sold well? Plant (as always) was stripped almost completely clean! Over 90% clearance on excavators and only two old non running telehandlers left over at the end of the day. Dumpers fared extremely well also… out of just over 30 dumpers we offered we had one unsold! That’s around a 97% clearance rate. We’re still in unprecedented and turbulent times so it’s fantastic to see such an appetite for equipment continue for such a long time.
We had a stonking day in the tractor row! There was a good handful of big, modern machines which smashed reserves and went well beyond values we expected for them! New Holland & John Deere were the top performers again. This month, however, we had an “as new” Landini 5-120 which had come to us from an estate where it had been too big for the jobs intended for her. This one also sold well… follow the link below for full results table and listings.
We saw over 100 vans, pick-ups & HGVs go under the hammer this month & over 70% were sold outright. This is a strong clearance rate and we continue to be getting some of the highest prices in the market for used commercial vehicles & trailers. Almost all direct fleet, council & leasing company vehicles were sold. We are starting to see some younger examples coming through the market now and these tend to sell well as they tend to conform to more emission standards.
As always for this time of year, the grounds maintenance section was full of end of season, fresh from use mowers of all shapes and sizes. These tend to be genuine end of use machines, with life left to give and fetched some very good values. There was a large number of machines in this row and almost none by the end of the day! We were short on quad bikes & ATVs this month, what was there sold well and we are now looking to fill this section back up for next month. Farm machinery & attachments continue to make strong money, as well as Ifor Williams trailers, which still tend to fetch near new money!
