Enthusiasm for the Welsh sections C and D and their part-breds was very much in evidence at the annual ‘cob sale’ held on the Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells. A clearance rate of 89% was achieved for 320 animals forward; one of the highest recorded at this sale yielding an overall average of £1,408. A total of 68 animals broke the £2,000 barrier.
Interest in Welsh ponies brought enthusiasts from far and wide to the annual Fayre Oaks Sale. A total of 314 animals were forward for the two day sale with 242 finding new homes producing an average of £883 the highest since 2003 with a clearance rate of 77% up from 65% in 2018.
Despite a lower number of animals catalogued this annual sale attracted buyers countrywide and realised two of the highest prices for a Hay Sale in a decade. The average for the 81 animals sold was also one of the highest at £435 with a clearance rate of 76%.
A catalogue with a smaller number of entries than usual for this annual sale did not deter buyers travelling from all over the UK with others making the trip from overseas.
After a lovely evening at the outgoing Lady President's Dinner dance, we are glad to report that £6,000 was raised from the Charity Auction Lots for Parkinson's UK. Thank you so much to everyone that supported the auction.

From an entry of 494 forward, 377 sold averaging £1,078 with a clearance rate of 77%.This is the highest sale average since 2007 when it was £1,194 and to top it all the sale record was broken in incredible style!
Horse & Hound report - The annual autumn cob sales held at The Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells saw a six-year-old Welsh section C be knocked down for a record breaking sale high of £45,000 on the final day of the auction.
The 65th Fayre Oaks Sale overcame the worst of the remnants of hurricane Callum which had made many roads in South Wales impassable due to severe flooding. In many places it was the worst flooding in Wales for over 30 years. However it did not deter the usual enthusiasm this sale brings and proceedings got under way slightly later accommodating those who had to detour many miles to make it to Builth Wells.
The annual Spring Sale this year took place on the Royal Three Counties Showground, Malvern and attracted an entry of 133 animals. Despite the inclement weather for most of the day, a clearance rate of 71% was achieved yielding an average of £618; though the average slipped from last year’s high of £725 it was on a par with other previous Spring Sales. Thirteen animals were sold for export and a similar number broke the four-figure barrier.
