Yearlings as always, proved most in demand

The 29th Official Sale of Standardbreds attracted the largest bench of prospective buyers for what was the biggest catalogue of Standardbreds offered by Brightwells for many a year.

The yearlings as always, proved most in demand, commanded the top prices and were sold to buyers from all corners of the UK and beyond.

Topping the Sale at £25,000 was Lot 78 Matteuceous (pictured above), a full brother to the great Miraculous’ consigned by his locally based breeder, Mr Price of Brecon whose home and stables are only a short distance from the showground at Builth-Wells.

Matteuceous, was sold to the successful Huschka Stables, and his progress and future performances will be followed in great expectation.

Joint-top price colts at £22,000 were Ireland’s Oakwood Stud’s, Foreclosure son Lot 69 Oakwood Oscar and Lot 67 Greenhill Bad Boy by the American bred stallion Big Bad John consigned by Gareth Thomas of Tredegar, with both colts purchased by overseas customers.

Oakwood Stud of Ireland also topped the filly’s sales, when selling Lot 73 Oakwood Let’s Boogie to Mark Evans of Brecon for a hammer price of £15.000.

Along, with the many previous successful graduates from our sales, which most recently include horses such as Oakwood Inittowinit, Oakwood Starcam, Rhyds Mystique, Matticulous, and Miraculous, Brightwells are once again looking forward with eager anticipation to watching this year’s sales graduates winning and performing well on the track, both in the UK and Ireland, as well as further a field.

Catryn Bigley of Brightwells Auctioneers said "we are grateful for the support of our vendors, very pleased with the sale returns and would like to wish this year’s purchasers well with their new firepower. I look forward to seeing them in the winners enclosure both next year and beyond."

Next year’s Sale will be held on Monday 20th October 2019.
