In 2.25 acres of grounds
Haven for wildlife
Situation and Description The Hawthorns is situated at the beginning of Broadmoor Common and has Haugh Woods forming one of its boundaries. Its idyllic position is a particular feature of the cottage and, coupled with its two and a quarter acres of relaxed gardens and grounds, makes it ideal for anyone looking for a rural idol.
The cottage is thought to take back to the 1700s, and has later additions, but offers sizeable accommodation. There are two large reception rooms, complimented by a large entrance hall that could double up as a study, along with a kitchen overlooking the rear. Also, on the ground floor is a large double bedroom with en suite shower room and two further double bedrooms on the first floor, which are supported by a family bathroom. Throughout, there are exposed timbers, stonework and fireplaces and, with lpg central heating and some secondary glazing, the property provides a mix of old and new. To the rear there is an external gardeners’ shower room/utility room with shower and toilet facilities and plumbing. Also, within the grounds is an excellent timber barn (25ft x 13ft) with inspection pit, power, water and accessed by a pair of sliding wooden doors.
The property is approached off Broadmoor Common by a gravel track that sweeps through the gardens to a parking area to the front of the timber barn. The grounds surround the property and offer a tapestry of plants, shrubs and mature trees. The planting immediately around the cottage includes a lovely mix of flowers and there is a large pond, ideal for wildlife. As you push away from the cottage there are larger shrubs and trees and to one side there is an enclosed old orchard which has been left to grow wild and natural with cut paths winding through. This theme continues in the opposite corner, with a more intimate wild garden with again cut walkways meandering through.
