1955 SGX139 VINCENT BLACK PRINCE
Long term
ownership since 1967; used for many years as a commuter bike and taken to many
shows including the Isle of Man in later years; splendid, rare and loved
machine; last ridden approximately three years ago; may need some light
recommissioning
This splendid Black Prince has been in the current
owners hands since September 1967, a mere 53 years! The accompanying buff
continuation log book lists one previous owner, a Mr Walters of Derby who kept
the series of invoices which date back to November 1964 - when the bike was just
six years old. Its history prior to that is unknown.
Reefs of further
invoices are on file....bring the history of this bike pretty much up to date.
It's owner has ridden it consistantly and enthusiastically over the years - an
article from 1997 shows it being exercised at Curborough and it has been a
regular visitor to the Isle of Man.
The file also includes a spare parts
list and current V5c as well as a copy of E M G Stevens' bible 'Know Thy Beast'
The Vincent.
The vendor has also included a series of notes which list
various mods over the years....these include the lighting switch and ammeter
changed to Miller units and that it still runs the 6v +ve earth wiring
setup.
It has a modern club manufactured clutch and stainless rims and
spokes on the wheels. The exhaust is also stainless steel and a NOS speedo was
fitted 2,785 miles ago....although he has lost count of the number of miles he
has covered on the bike.
New crash bars were sourced, again from the club
but didn't fit that well so are supplied but not fitted and the distributor was
rebuilt but has since broken its retard springs.
Not so long ago, the
crankpin sheared and a new bigend assembly was fitted which alas is slightly out
of true so the engine vibrates - this is a job that needs sorting and the
flywheels need truing up.
There is some minor damage to the fibreglass
panels which was caused when the bike toppled in the driveway - fortunately
without the panniers fitted at the time. In the vendor's own words "I have owned
the 'old thumper' since the end of September 1967 and it appears to have grown a
foot taller and two hundredweight heavier", hence it is now up for grabs.
