2001 Mercedes-Benz G500
LHD Kuwait import in
white with tan interior dressed to look like a G55 with quad side pipes and more
than enough Bling - very cool
Eye-catching
for sure, this impressive left-hand drive W463 series G-Wagen dates from January
2001 and comes to us from a Mercedes enthusiast and collector in Cardiff. Imported from Kuwait and registered in
the UK in April 2021 this G500 looks to have originally been be a Japanese
market example with various manufacturer stickers on the vehicle in Japanese as
well as Arabic.
Finished in white, the car
wears a set of big, attractive 19” AMG branded alloy wheels in satin black
wearing equally large 275/55 R19 Pirelli Scorpion Zero M+S tyres along with
carbon effect trim, LED driving lights, rear privacy glass, additional front
lower chin spoiler and AMG side exit exhausts (both are only cosmetic, the
exhaust exits adjacent to the driver’s side twin pipes) along with G55 AMG
badging to create the look of the G55 version with updated head lights, grill
and other bits.
Inside, we find acres of soft
tan leather, electric windows, electrically adjustable heated front seats,
reverse camera (built into the rear-view mirror), head light wash, heated rear
screen, wash/wipe rear screen, cruise control, multi-function steering wheel,
on-board computer, after-market Pioneer radio/CD, rear map pocket nets and
sunroof.
Under the bonnet, is a 292bhp M113.965
series 5.0 litre V8 engine which develops a creamy 456Nm of torque, enough for
some proper fun in the sand dunes ….or for towing on the M50 perhaps! Power
goes to the road via 5-speed automatic transmission driving all 4-wheels via
all-wheel drive and the G-wagon’s trick diffs selectable on the dash by button
and 2nd gear lever for low ratio etc.
Showing 208,370Km (129 ,475 miles) the truck shows only limited
signs of use commensurate with its age and mileage with some minor scuffing to
the interior, door cards and exterior bodywork. The interior dash trim has been wrapped
in carbon effect which is lifting and shrinking in various places as pictured –
but this is readily cured by removal or re-wrap.
The history file includes the V5C showing 1 former keeper (the
importer), few recent bills for new alternator, battery, starter motor, wipers
and replacement shock absorber we also find confirmation of transfer of the
private plate pictured which is not included and will be retained on successful
sale of the vehicle, current MOT valid until March 2022 recording 3 minor
advisories and a selection of parts and service invoices from Kuwait dating
between 2018 and 2020.
Ready to be enjoyed,
this cool and imposing G-Wagen has all the looks and noise of the G55 with much
of the real world V8 performance from its 5.0 V8. It looks capable of fording
every stream, climbing every pavement on the school run and impressing most of
the neighbours and looks enticing value at the estimate – whack a private plate
on and few would know its not the real G55 deal or that its 21 years old such
are the array of cosmetic updates on the car – plus, it’s a G-Wagen, which is
automatically a great thing to start with.
