Description
1981 Triumph TR7 V8 Convertible
Late model V8
converted rag-top with a proper exhaust bellow and manual 'box - ideal use
and improve example
Dating from March 1982 this
late model TR7 Convertible must be one of the last, and is comparatively rare as
a convertible model, just 28,864 were produced compared to the 112,368
hard-top/coupe variants.
This example has been
converted to V8 power at some point in its life, badged now as a TR8 – we know
its not one of the genuine 2,497 TR8s built, because these were built between
1977 and 1978 and, all were fixed head Coupes.
Finished in maroon, the car wears a set of attractive 14”
Compomotive X-spoke alloy wheels finished in gold with polished lip which, we
think, sets the car off nicely given the enhanced performance on offer from the
3.5 litre Rover V8 sitting under the bonnet. Starting promptly, the car sounds
as you might imagine, thunderous and not unlike a TVR 350i….come to think of it,
they are not dissimilar in looks too…
The hood
is in tan vinyl, with a couple of splits but the rear screen looks intact and
clear while the interior, also on a tan theme, with vinyl and checker seats,
would benefit from a refurb but looks complete.
Showing 84,868 miles its impossible to know if this is correct, as
the history file for this Lot is a little sparse including only the V5C
recording 10 previous keepers, a sole bill for a fuel pump dated July 2021 and
four old MOTs along with the current valid until December 2022 with no
advisories recorded, whilst the MOT history reveals the car to have seen little
use over the past few years.
Give the car some
love and improve the few cosmetic bits pictured and you’ll likely have a fast,
sleek V8 rag-top to enjoy that makes a wonderful throaty exhaust note. Given the
way TR7 prices have risen of late, its likely a shrewd investment
too.
