1967 Morris FG Commercial
Rare snout-nose FG;
driven 50 miles to the sale; de-rated to 3,500kgs; useful car
transporter
Originally launched under the BMC banner, the FG covered
a wide range of payloads, from 1.5 to 5 tons....
Launched with what
the marketeers called the 'angle-planned' cab, the distinctive cab layout
featured small, semi-rear facing doors which allowed access in tight spaces.
The innovative cab also had windows below the waistline, allowing a
'kerbside view', a blessing in busy high streets.
Soon dubbed the
'threepenny bit', it was a very successful truck and remained in production well
into the 1970s. BRS parcels, Sunblest bread and British Gas loved them, as did
every local Council around the country - there was little to go
wrong.
This 1967 Morris version has the snout-nose of the later models
and comes to us in handy beaver-tail configuration. Complete with ramps and
winch, it would make the perfect addtion to carry that classic car or tractor to
events around the country in some style.
The vendor informs us that he
has spent a lot of time and effort tidying it up, with recent paint and a new
battery. It was driven some 50 miles to the sale and has proved an instant
starter since its arrival onsite.
The vendor has had the truck de-rated
to 3,500kgs, which makes ownership much more straightforward. If you enjoy
commercial vehicle runs, go to local shows or take your tractor to ploughing
matches, this is just the bit of kit you need.
