1970 Triumph TR6
Rebuilt during the 1990s with galvanised CDS tubed chassis; uprated overdrive and altered interior for ease of use and regular commuting by our vendor
This 1970 TR6 not only has its standard soft top with tonneau but also, unusually, is equipped with an original works steel hard top too. It was subject to a body off rebuild between 1987 and 1999 (slow and steady work!) by the previous owner.
During the rebuild, a new galvanised CDS tubed chassis was constructed, which gives the car more strength and stability than it ever had. The engine was also worked on during this time and a 4:1:1 ratio final drive unit was fitted. The aim in the 1990s was to prepare it for hill climbs and a stainless steel exhaust was fitted along with the evident roll bar. Many of the smaller parts were replaced and of course it was all finished off with a complete respray.
The rebuild was completed, although it was sparingly used and for unknown reasons back then, it was sold to our vendor in 1999. His intention was to use it every day to commute, which he did indeed do, so some small alterations were made to make it more comfortable, useable and practical.
The final drive unit was reverted back to its normal 3:45:1 ratio (although the low ratio unit is available to the new purchaser), the overdrive was rebuilt by Moss, a new clutch assembly fitted while the gearbox was out (nothing wrong with the old one – and is included), the roll bar and harnesses were kept for increased safety on the roads and the seats and steering wheel were altered to suit our vendors ‘over 6ft’ frame!
The car was used on a regular basis up to 2007 for commuting although has been used slightly less recently so our vendor has been tweaking and altering small areas to make it more comfortable for the modern road.
Definitely worth coming to view, the paperwork is impressive and covers everthing that has been done over the years. DGN 275H comes with a fresh MOT until May 2023 and was driven to us for the sale.
Included in the sale: Soft top complete with fixings, lower ratio final drive unit, pair of original seats, pair of original rear dampers, slightly worn but useable clutch and plate, original throttle body assemblies, quantity of unused other spares for further detailed upgrades.
