1989 Jaguar XJ-S HE
V12 automatic coupe in desirable colour scheme; scope for cosmetic improvement with a clean MOT valid until December 2022
Dating from October 1989 this V12 powered 5.3-litre XJ-S HE Coupe is finished in burgundy and sits upon its original 15” cross-lace alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, we find matching burgundy interior and wood trim. There are signs of age/wear to the interior, but its still a cosy place to be with the added bonus of heated seats and electrically adjustable lumbar for both.
In addition, we find a trip computer, cruise control, electric windows, heated rear window and radio/cassette player. The transmission of this car is the three-speed ZF automatic unit which was well-suited to the lazy tone of the 295bhp engine.
The car shows 127,395 miles and looks to have been in storage for a number of years and in our current owner’s hands since July 2019. The MOT history viewable online suggests the car to have been off the road between MOT tests in 2006 (at 126,271 miles) and 2018 (at 126,300 miles) when it was pulled out and presented for MOT, failing on a rather extensive list. Passing again the following July 2019 after, we assume some extensive although undocumented work at 126,347 miles at which time it passed without advisory. The current MOT is valid until December 2022 with no advisories recorded.
The history file is sparse and includes only the V5C revealing 10 former keepers, the owner's manual, current MOT and note from the vendor confirming some recent work including new brake callipers including handbrake, new discs and pads, a new rear shocker, new battery and oil service in December 2021.
The car shows signs of age on the cosmetic side, as pictured, but nothing out of the ordinary from what we can see for an XJ-S and on the whole is presentable with scope for improvement – an ideal use and improve example that started promptly and ran well while we moved it around for these shots and video.
