1991 Mazda MX-5 (MkI)

Tidy, earlier two-owner MkI from 30 year lady ownership showing just 86,000 miles; power-steering, electric windows and replacement Mohair hood with glass rear screen

A lovely example coming from 30 year lady ownership, purchased for her as a Mother’s day gift by her husband as promised once the kids had ‘fled the nest’ in 1992.  Our lady owner, and vendor enjoyed the car daily while working until retirement, since when it was enjoyed for sunny days out.

She lovingly recounts the car has been cherished and garaged every night through her 30 year tenure.  It was only sold originally because the previous owner got divorced, bought an Irish Wolf Hound and found the dog was too large for the MX5.

Dating from April 1991 and supplied new by Bridge Motors Ltd of Essex, this earlier MkI example is finished in classic red with replacement black Mohair roof with glass rear screen and sits upon its original Minilite style alloy wheels, features a neat little boot rack and shows just 86,398 miles.

Inside, we find it to be optioned with power steering and electric windows, charcoal cloth seats and Sony radio/CD player.

Under the bonnet, we find the proven 1.6 litre four-cylinder fuel injected B6ZE engine developing 115bhp and 136NM of torque driving the rear wheels via five-speed manual transmission.

The history file for the car includes the V5C revealing just one former keeper (the man with the big dog), two old style V5C’s, owner’s manuals and service book showing four stamps plus one for body inspection and after, a series of hand-written service log entries from 1996-2007, Sony CD player user manual, some 23 old MOTs plus the current, valid until June 2023 recording four minor advisories (enter the reg online at check-mot.service.gov.uk).

In addition, we also find a selection of maintenance and parts bills and letter from the first owner regarding the car and his reason for sale (big dog).  Recent bills of note include one dated August 2022 for a new alternator and fan switch, new door latch mechanism in May 2021, clutch kit in October 2019.

Ready to be enjoyed, this Mazda has been cherished by its long-term lady owner and they are keen for it to go to a good and equally loving home.
